I have an '85 with the same exact problem, for now I just have the
V-boost on all the time for now. Someone on the list was looking into
developing a control box that allowed variable opening settings but i
haven't heard if he was successful. The control box may be able to be
repaired but I don't know for sure maybe someone else does.
