Welding the ring in the swingarm tube can be seen at my web site at
http://www.sayegh.org/framepic.htm
This may not help the problem TC is describing but I did find the bike to be
more stable in the turns with the ring inside. The problem is that if you look
at http://www.sayegh.org/images/Paul/swingarm_reinforcing.jpg you will notice
that the pivot tube does not go all the way across because the driveshaft has
to go through. Ever notice why it takes so many turns to achieve 4 lbs of
torque on your swing arm bearings???? Well, the large tube is being crushed
egg shaped as you tighten the bearings. Picture a thin tube being crushed in a
vice. I also found that the entire frame was being spread apart when
tightening the swingarm bearings. Cut a piece of welding rod that fits across
the frame, tighten the swingarm bearings and watch it fall out!!!! The gussets
on the swing arm area helped that as well. When I tighten the swingarm
bearings it achieves proper torque with 1\3 the rotation of the stock setup.
Be careful with this mod, if you add a tube too thick, the u-joint will hit.
