One additional note in regard to clearing you ailing pilot circuit,
(bypass holes). You mentioned getting an air compressor and something
to take your carb caps off. I was in a "Sam's Club" store recently, (a
club/warehouse type store), and they had a small .. air compressor ...
it looked like about a 5 gallon tank ........ the little guy made 100
lbs and was only limited by CFM output .. Anyhow ... units of this
type are very inexpensive, (<way less than $100), and are so small
they are no bother .... You will find even more things to do with one
this size in addition to using it for bike maintenance.
If you haven't removed the brass plugs covering your pilot mixture
screws yet ... then leave them alone, (if you want to get them out for
future maintenance then just drill them out with a 3/16 inch drill ...
carefully ..) ... and if you don't have the T25 security torx bit to
remove the carb end caps, (and don't have a set of vice grips), then
don't worry about it. You can clear the pilots by introducing the
compressed air into the primary pilot air jet at the top of the carb
... it is the biggest jet at the top. Just remember to cover the carbs
with a rag when you are blasting .... This will probably work fine for
you and all you have to remove is the top of the airbox ...........
piece of cake ...... honest .......
If you ultimately want a bit to take those security screws out,
(without the vise grips), you can usually find the T25 bit just about
anywhere these days .. it is a regular torx bit with a hole in the
middle. JC Whitney still sells a 7 piece set that includes this size
and only costs $3.99 .. it is their part number 81NV3896P. Make sure
you round up some replacement screws, (hex head are nice), before you
ace any of the stockers .. you will need 5 x 12mm replacements
........ annnnnnnddddddd if you really do order the security torx bits
from JCWhitney ... and you don't have a 12mm spark plug adapter for a
compression adapter ..... they have one for $3.79 .. their part number
12ZX8952P ......... This is one of the few places I know that you can
get one ........ the alternatives are grim ... and this guy will fit
"any" compression gauge. I remember the first time I needed one ... I
had to borrow it from my favorite local motorcycle shop ... they were
like gold ... there were two in the whole shop and they had rings on
them like restroom keys ....
Soooooooo ... to take care of your current problem all you need is
compressed air and a #2 phillips screwdriver with at least a 5 inch
blade ..........
campbell
