FYI, There is an article regarding the use of 16.5 vs 17 inch tires at the Yamaha Racing web site. Their comments regarding higher sidewall height, front end chatter, bump absorption and tread profile are very interesting .... not that I think "I" could possibly tell what type or size tire was on my bike by just riding and not looking ... but none the less .. a short article and worthwhile reading ..... check out .. http://www.yamaha-racing.com/public/setupreport/detail.asp?PressID=93 if you are interested ........
