Hi Guys,
some of you will know that i have been messing around
trying to stablize the tuning of my stg7 and kerker set-up. part of that was
the use of the stock v-stacks inside the stg.7 filters. while this did
improve the bottom-end and midrange the indiv. filters still allow the carbs
to respond independantly, esp. going into the needle for midrange transition.
TC and others have in the meantime done us the great favor
of recommending the use of the 42.5 pfj. and 150 paj2 configuration. i
installed these on my bike today (in about 2 hrs.) and the level of low rpm
throttle reponse and power is GREATLY IMPROVED, along with
cruising(55-60mph) and midrange transition. this a level of drivability
quality that you will really like and be glad if you try.
back to the stg.7, i have been running w/ the stock tubes
and the butterflies open fulltime. while i was waiting for jets to arive i
decided to see if i could mimick the fatter mixture they would provide. to
accomplish this, i decided to apply more intake (air) restriction by useing
Patrick A.s hybrid modified air box and lid.while many people have
complained of the fickleness of the indiv. filters ireally wanted them to
work.
i can now advise that i don't recommend them for the
street. if you will try the trimmed box lid and a K-N drop-in i'm sure you
will be impressed with the results. part of what is happening with this is
that all the carbs are more tied together and under the same pressure
differential in the box and so work at more nearly the same time and degree.
i also tried the "factory pro" needles by Stan's advise and
seeing his dyno run, esp. the torque curve. i am now running them at the top
clip position ( which is the equivelant of stg.7 needles at position 3)
these needles have by my experience out proformed the stg.7 needles at every
rpm and speed in every gear. i can reccomend them to anyone running stock or
modified. 3500 to 7500 rpms really kicks ass with these babies.
in closing i'd like to thank everyone that has shared their
experience with the list and made it possible for me to achieve so high a
performance jump so succesfully. and Don S. who kept on me to do the
suspention, without which i would not care to ride this bike at this
performance level. while your there get yourself some solid mounts too.
                steve #1131
