I have no pics as of yet. I have just installed a capture card on my puter. I will
have some pics in two weeks. I am in the process of installing a double headlight
bracket like the one seen in Mission Impossile II. Once I get that installed I will
take some pics.
What I have done, I do not recomend to anyone. I mounted two 6 gallon aluminum spun
dune-buggy gas tanks in the location where most place saddle bags. These are the
cilinder tanks you see on most dune-buggies. My friend said they look like P-51 wing
tanks from WWII, so I painted the white star with the bars on the sides like the
Mustang's badge. Hence the name The "P-51" Long Range Max. I have a selector so I can
go back to the internal tanks. With the combined external and internal, I have 15
gallons of gas on board! That is more gas than my wife's Neon. I have gone 700 miles
without refueling. I think that is a record for Mr. Max. Thank God for John Furber's
seat!!!! I still needed a spatual to get my ass off the seat though!!
All good so far hu? Well now for the bad part. I have them mounted where they begin
at the front of the V-Max side plate. This allows the the person in the back to still
reach the foot pegs. They extend 6" past the tail light. Holding 12 gallons = over
100 lbs of fuel over the rear tire. Mr. Max is a real hand full. It gave me a wicked
slow speed shimmy!!!!! A super brace and Furber's frame braces took that away. Mr
Max is still very top heavy!!! The best I can explaine it is like having a 175 pound
chick bac there that refuses to LEAN with the bike on turns!!!!!!! I think most of us
have been there >;-P. If I ever go down, it will take about 10 yards untill the
asphalt eats through the tanks and then........ TALK ABOUT GOING OUT IN A BLAZE OF
GLORY!!!!!
I get comments all the time at stop lights. "Is that NOS?" is the most common. To
which I reply "Yep 12 gallons worth". That is enough for a 747!!! People always
crowd around in the local parking lots. "What are those?" to which I reply "JETO
Rocket Packs, I am going to jump the Rio Grand this weekend" to which they reply
"Where can we by tickets?"
Some of the List Readers have seen my Max in ALBQ, New Mexico, if you want an
unpartial opinion.
