Well .. the "club" in front of this one .. the VMax Owners Club ...
was started in '94 by Jon Cotner ... It crashed sometime in '95 if I
remember correct .. and had about 150 members.
It had an excellent publication ... the "Hard Twist" which only made 4
issues but was very commercial and was stocked in major book stores.
There was also "The Scoop" .. a periodic newsletter that filled in
between the issues of Hard Twist. I think it must have been quite a
bit of work to build the original "club" because I don't think Yomama
gave Jon a copy of all the owners. I think this original work helped
the follow up V-Max Owners Association get a better start, (there was
a list of previous "club" members). Then of course .. I think the
Internet has helped quite a bit too ... Yomama or Yo dealer didn't
tell you to join the VMOA did they ??
I am not mentioning this to diminish any of the hard work put forth by
anybody who has contributed to making the VMOA what it is today ... it
is just that there is blood in the back seat .... a valiant effort at
the wrong time but none the less a foothold that allowed the VMOA a
better chance of survival ......
Prior to that ... the only person advertising for the Vmax was Dale
Walker ... he used to advertise Vmax stuff in all the cycle rags and
in the back of "National Dragster", (the weekly newsprint magazine
that goes with your NHRA membership).
How many people had ISP accounts or web pages in 1994 ?? (the answer
is ... "not too many"). /// Isn't technology wonderful ??
