I used to live in North Platte back when the speed limit was 55. Talk about along haul from there to Iowa... ==================== Michael Oberle [EMAIL PROTECTED] ==================== echo Mhbqnrnes Stbjr | tr [a-y] [b-z] -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, June 23, 2000 11:18 AM To: V-MAX TECH LIST Subject: Re: Travel Tech (prepin', packin', etc.) Well, my wife and I went to Colorado and back (2900 miles) last summer, and to Key West and back (3200 miles) a couple of months ago, camping all the way, so I have some insight on this. Extra headlight bulb, extra tail light bulb, tire repair kit and CO2 tire filler with extra cartridges, tool set that came with V-Max and/or better quality equivalent you put together yourself (if you do put together your own tool set, be sure to retain the spark plug tool, and larger wrenches from the kit that fit the large nuts at various places on the bike), cable ties, knife, flashlight, rain gear (including "Totes" type things to go over your boots,no room or budget for rain gear, then some large plastic trash bags and some string or rubber bands can work in a pinch), more bungee cords than you think you need, at least a minimal first aid kit, any prescription drugs (plus prescriptions, if available, or at least your pharmacy's phone number), your glasses prescription,a couple disposable! cameras (we never wanted to take the time to get the fancy SLR out of the bags, and missed some photos...The disposable ones fit in a pocket, and who cares if they hit the pavement). I have a fork bag (tools, bulbs, etc.), saddle bags, and a T-bag on the back rest and rack, and use a "carry-on" size bag, bungee'd to the passenger seat behind me. The tent and sleeping bag get bungeed in at the end. Other handy things that seem to take up more room than they're worth, but are nice if you have the room are paper towels, duct tape, bottled water (essential if you're in areas with few gas stations, etc.) Oh yeah, DON'T go through Nebraska. We went through Kansas, etc. on the way TO Colorado from Indianapolis, that was a nice ride. We came back via Nebraska, LONG, FLAT, DULL (nice people though, they're the only reason we didn't slit our wrists during that stretch). Paul D.
