I have a 86 VMAX I bought 'bout 2 months ago. I will never own any other bike! This is
the most
impressive machine I have ever rode and I have been riding for over 30 years. V-BOOST
is better than
sex, well maybe. At my age, I can enjoy Da Boost more often. The bike has 12k mi and sat
for a long
time. My problem is that as long as I am going thru the gears it runs just great. But
if I run at a
constant 4k or so for a 1/2 mile it seems to run out of gas and stops. After I'm
stopped and sit
for a minute she starts right up and does the same thing down the road.

I had the seat off and was checking the coils and the fuel pump and I noticed that the
fuel filter
only seemed to be active in idle. I was wondering if something was telling the fuel
pump it didn't
need fuel and starving the bike at steady rpms? I have tried running with the res
switch in both
positions and no luck. I replaced the fuel filter, nothing changed. I have run 4 or 5
tanks of top
grade fuel and drained the carb bowls. I let it idle for 20 minutes hoping it would
have one of it's
spells so I could check the fuel presure but she just purred right along.

I have ordered a service manual 6 weeks ago and I am still waiting for that to come
in. Frustrating
to say the least. I think if I knew what Don "Old Man" Smith forgot I'd be on the
road right now!

Thanks for any help,
Chris
