Hi,
I'll have to weigh in on behalf of the Hein Gerrike V-Pilot. I bought mine
about ten years ago after reading an article by Kevin Cameron describing how
he'd taken a tour of Death Valley in the summer wearing a V-Pilot outfit and
stayed nice and cool. It has a system of perforated leather that runs under
the arms with zippered openings front and rear. By adjusting the zippers you
can stay either cool or warm. Of course, there's a liner that snaps in for
the really cool months. It's the most versatile jacket I've ever seen. I've
worn mine riding all 12 months of the year here in Colorado with temps
around 100 in the summer and in the 30's in the winter. Comfy year round
(although black leather gets warm in the summer if you're not moving -
moving, no problem) Built in kidney belt, too. VERY STURDY (read both heavy
and indestructible)
It also looks good. (the biggest downside to the Aerostitch, in my opinion)
There are perforated suits that are cooler, but are useless when it gets
cold. There are unvented suits that are as warm, but useless when it gets
hot. The V-Pilot is the best combination for year-round comfort, IMHO.
best,
Sat Tara
