Howie,
Some time ago .... I was doing a little research in regard to
motorcycle traffic enforcement and accident scene reporting procedures
in reference to collecting usable data for the purpose of generating
statistics. You may have seen some of my posts before Christmas as I
was more than distressed by a "bunch" of motorcycle accidents here in
the Phoenix area. Some of these accidents were nothing more than
murder but you would have never been able to see it based on the data
collected at the accident scene, (accident reports are still "auto"
oriented in most jurisdictions).
Anyhow .... during that period I I was at the NHTSB site and noticed
that we missed a window, (expired 11/22), to contribute any personal
comments, threats or pleas to a draft of the "National Agenda for
Motorcycle Safety" ....... this is what will become the bible for
"down the road" encouragement by the Federal Govt, (US), in regard to
operating a motorcycle on US highways. You "HAVE TO READ" this mammoth
document !!! I was so angry I couldn't see straight and then I started
reading it and all I can say is "WOW" ... the people that compiled
this report are a complete reverse of the "zeros" who authored some of
the other "statistical findings" type of reports submitted to the
NHTSB, (no doubt to simply obtain grant money to support their lowly
existence .. but still available on-line if you choose to use them
..). I am sure there is stuff you are looking for at this site... and
anyone else who can take the time should make themselves read this
report ... its' a feel good ....
http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/people/injury/pedbimot/motorcycle/ ....
I was surprised to learn that we are viewed favorably as a group by
law enforcement organizations and statistically experience about
one-tenth the accidents that the balance of the motor vehicle driving
public incur. Read this !!!!!!! ... then go out an lay some rubber !!
