I had this problem this weekend in ALBQ. 308 miles from my shop in El Paso!!!!! I
had to make due with the Max tool kit! AHHHHHH!!!!

My problem was a "corroded connector bar". It's kinda hard to explaine, especially
for a coon-ass, but when you push your starter button in.... there is a brass bar
mounted to the top of the switch button... this bar connects two leads that keep your
lights on. When the button is pushed in.... this bar slides to the rear. This causes
it to leave the two leads for the lights: WA-LA your head light dies... and instead
connect two leads further back in the housing that cause the starter to spin. That
bar had become green with corrosion!! and my "P-51" Max is a 99. I guess that a
pressure washer is not such a good idea for a Max bath!!!

But when it's free at work... >;-P

In order to get to this "bar" you have to completly take apart the throttle assembly.
There is a detent silver ball that is spring loaded, holding the button in place.
Took an hour with a flashlight and my duel headlight assembly to find that little
muther-f*cker!!! Anyway I cleaned it with a pencel eraser and Mr. Max spins up as if
new. If ya have any questions you can give me a call and I will walk you through it.
