I would like to replace/upgrade the starter motor in my 1985 V MAX. I think
the one that is in there now (original) is no good. It is sluggish and I'm
sure it's going to leave me stranded someday. I paid to have this problem
solved but I was told to live with it, being a typical V MAX problem. The
battery was replaced for new....this made no difference. I keep seeing the
list writing about a 4 pole, 4 brush, 1990 and later starter but I'm not sure
of the responses...... Has any one ever tried to replace the starter of a
1985 V MAX with a better model? Did it fit? Was there an improvement? Is
there an aftermarket design or should I rely on a Yamaha part No. Where can I
find the part No? Has any one tried the German alternative? (Reassemble the
cleaned starter with a better ground) Is there a better answer to this
problem (sluggish starting?) Would the Tech.List please clear this up for me?
