I have a 1986 Vmax that I just purchased from someone online. I got screwed
a bit. He said it was a full rebuild, front to rear. The day I got it,
second gear has been jumping. All other gears work great. The most recent
thing it is doing is not starting. I have replaced the battery that was
shot, and it worked for awhile. It now just makes a clicking sound from the
starter solenoid. I have tried crossing over the solenoid, and it does not
crank. It will compression start though. I am assuming the starter is the
problem. Does this sound right or am I planning on doing a project that I
don't need to do? BTW, I have pulled the engine already to replace parts in
the tranny. I figure that this is the best time to rip it all apart if I
need to. Are there any other parts that I should replace now while it is
apart? The bike has 19k miles and a few conversion including a PCW chain
conversion.
