Hi, I got this problem several times on my trip...mostly from dirty gas from
jerkwater small town gas stations. The surge and hesitation cames at around
4000 where the carb was trying to stablize between coming off the plugged
pilots and onto the needles/mains. To solve the problem I did two things.
One was to add a bit of carb cleaner into the tank and after about 1/2 of
running (on the highway) I would stop and run through the gears a couple of
times with plenty of throttle. This would clear the system back to
normal...a couple of times just running through the gears helped.

cheers, Terry
