just had a bout with the max. it was just quitting after about ten minutes of
operation. several of ya hinted at the coil pickup and a couple of other
possibilities.
took it to the dealer in wilson nc and here is what they told me:
they talked to yamaha many times over three days of trouble shooting. the
problem was the ignition was shutting down, yamaha apparently had (per the
dealer) changed the coil pick up more than once in 94. they supposedly went
from a single to a dual to a four point pickup. yamaha also said there was no
was to tell which was which ( i found this extremely hard to believe). the
dealer also said the bikes are omitted from the computer after four years,
also hard to believe. what it boils dowm to is a cost of a little over 1000
dollars to get the mighty max back in operation. it is running well now. i
just have a problem with the explanation i was given. has anyone else had the
same problem?
also, every year i have had the valves adjusted and routine service performed
prior to beginning the riding season. to date, the valves have always checked
within specs and haver not been adjusted. cna this be too good to be true??
