Ah yes, gotta love opposing opinions :-) Thanks for the input.

Well, our handy-dandy service manual says, "High Quality Ethylene Glycol
containing Anti-Corrosion for Aluminum Engine Inhibitors" but does not
specify about Silicates/Phosphates as lubricants/inhibitors.

The coolant I was considering is the Prestone Dex-Cool clone.  This sludge
thing has me wondering. Seems like an odd behavior for something that will
be heated, cooled and exposed to air regularly.

I suppose we'll need to assign a committee to investigate Dex-Cool
solubility ;-)

    I hate to arrive late to this conversation, but feel I must get my 2
cents in.  IMHO using GM's Dex cool would be a huge mistake.  Now without
getting into the rant that I submitted the last time we discussed this, I
will attempt to relay some of the horrors that Dex Cool creates.  Picture a
radiator in a 1998-2000 GMC Jimmy or Chevrolet Blazer that is 1/2 full of
dark brown sludge.  This is what happens when hot Dex Cool comes in contact
with oxygen.  Strangely enough, hot coolant will come into contact with
