By all means do it your self.  Just keep a few things in mind.
1). Use only new fluid from a sealed can.  DOT 3 and DOT 4 are both
hydroscopic (attract water) and open cans will degrade with time.
2). Brake fluid will strip the paint, clear coat and ruin your good shoes in
a heart beat so be careful and keep some clean towel handy to quickly wipe
up any spills and than wash it off immediately.
3). remember to keep filling the master cylinder to prevent introducing air
into the system,
4). Bleed till clear fluid comes out caliper (slave cylinder)
5). A Mity Vac bleed tool speeds up the process.

My Vmax has 15000 miles on it and I have yet to change the brake and clutch
fluids.  I'm going to do it this weekend - at the shop or at home, if I can.

Is this a pretty simple job?  Should I spend the $80.00 the shop is
charging?
