Just brought my "new" Vmax home. It's my second, the first was an'85 bought in '85 and sold in ' 86 to my everlasting regret. This one is an '85 as well, box-stock from the original owner, 23,000 Km, every piece of documentation from day one, and it looks like he spent most of his time polishing. C$6,000. Needless to say, I'm a happy camper.
So, coupla questions - I've seen much conversation lately about octane, looking around my neighborhood I find 94 - with 10% ethanol. Make any difference?
I've heard the second gear set went away on the '85's at some point - why? What to look for? At the moment, the tranny sounds fine in second.
It tends to pop through the carbs on a light throttle, figure I ought to start with a tune-up. I've just picked up the shop manual, any suggestions on what should be included in the effort beyond what the factory has to say?
