Actually no. There are a number of tires that offer both grip and longevity.
One of the few things that most guys on this list agree upon is that the
Dunlops bite the big one. The Old Man likes Metzelers. I like the Avons (I
think Tyler would agree with me also, right Tyler?) There are probably other
faves, but the Qualifiers suck in most people's opinion.
While really grippy race tires use softer compound and thinner tread, and
thus usually offer bad tread life, it is possible with street tires to have
both good grip and good tread life, due to other factors in construction,
such as belt stiffness and configuration, tread design, and different rubber
compounds and thicknesses in different parts of the tire.
