It's not quite that simple. It doesn't actually cause the engine to run
leaner "on the pilot circuit". It causes a delay in opening the mains.
Drilling holes in the air box will alter the pressure differential that
causes the slides to open. While the net effect is that it will run somewhat
leaner, the way that it does that is to delay the opening of the main jets.
That's why it's important to use weaker slide springs if you open up the
airbox.
