The shift shaft seal is pretty easy to remove. Remove the middle gear
cover. Get a screwdriver and gently break up the seal by pounding a
hammer at the end of the screwdriver. Be careful not to gouge the area
around the seal. When you've done this you can dig the old seal out with
the screwdriver. Pull the old seal off of the shaft. No oil will come
out with the seal removed. Now put the new seal on the shift shaft and
slide it up to the engine case. Get a pipe about a 1 foot long andthe
same diameter as the seal. Slide the pipe over the shift shaft and
gently pound on the end of the pipe with the hammer to push the seal
into place.
