Hi guys,
While polishing up my mostly stock, '85 Max for Biketoberfest, I discovered
that the rubber bumpers on the top of the rear shocks have turned into
rubber powder! (and fell off the shocks upon pressure!)
I'm assuming they're there to prevent the shock piston from bottoming out
internally, so I need to do something to prevent damage! I'm hoping some
of you can tell me if the top of the shock is easily disassembled to the
point where I could replace that rubber bumper. I don't want to pull one
off only to discover a dead end. The service manual is weak on this point!
Due to the fact that we just had our first baby (a girl) on Monday, I will
not be able to upgrade/purchase any aftermarket shocks; something I'm sure
most of you would recommend...
The stock setup works well enough for me.
Thanks,
-CC VMOA 1162
