I went to the local dealer yesterday and the shop guy said that the brakes
felt fine to him. I got checking and felt over a dozen brake levers there
and at another shop and he is pretty much right they do feel about the same
as mine. So I guess all is ok, but I do remember having a harder lever
faster before. I also did some checking last night. Some had suggested
that the R-1's pistons were larger and that I needed a larger MC to handle
the extra load. So I did some measuring and guess what? The R-1 pistons
are actual smaller, yes smaller than the late model stock and guess what
else is smaller? The pads. So when they feel like I have less braking
power than with the stocks now I can see why. These calipers were made for
a new LIGHTWEIGHT bike, not the battle cruiser we all love. I think it
would take a really good pad to be able make up the difference. Maybe the
EBC HH pads are that good. I have to say that the main reason I bought them
was for the looks and I got a pretty good deal I think. But I am having
second thoughts. Maybe my stock powder coated are not so bad after all.
Anybody interested in a set of 2000 R-1's delivered in the USA for $150.
Many, Many thanks to all for the responses to my brake issues. I learned
some and got the ole cerebellum working a little bit. Sorry that it cause a
few sparks on the list but then again what doesn't?? :-)
BTW what motor oil does everyone use?? :-) :-) :-)
