As the owner of a 1500 Long Rod Motor I can speak to this subject.
Feedback on my engine goes as follows:
The engine is really strong. I would tell you that it is way better than
it was stock/with nitrous. I raced the bike at the track and it runs
10.8's with a bad clutch and a very average tire at 6000 ft (probably
9.8's at sea level). I have beaten the hayabusa routinely down the track
although it is closer than I would have hoped for but I think that I can
attribute this to the clutch and when the clutch was good I was not
ready for that much hp....Make no mistake about the PCW motor it is
really strong.
My only real problem with this bike is no one can help with my problems.
ie Tuning the bike is a pain in the arse with my limited understanding
of flatsides and the contributions the electrical makes in terms of
performance. The bike is now unique and good vfour mechanics are hard to
come by. If something nukes right now I am in deep doodoo ...
I would describe customer service from PCW as a total joke. Your best
bet is not to think of John Gainey as any kind of "real" business man.
John is the mad mechanic and totally eccentric. He can be a complete
gentleman one minute and a total butthead the next... I would have paid
him a visit to his shop on more than one occaision to let him know what
i think of his attitude if he was not 2000 miles away.... But now I will
tell you that I think he is probably the best Vmax mechanic out there. I
suspect that Jon Cornell is the best vmax tuner but I don't know for
sure.
The only mistake I made in purchasing the Long Rod was paying my money
up front. You don't pay up front with PCW. You will get burned. I did.
He did not have any reason to jerk me around yet once my bike was payed
for it sat for almost another 1 1/2 years... I would recommend that you
tell John that you pay when you get your DYNO sheet and not until then
just for his parts that he has to purchase to build your bike.
Kosy, you want to play you have to pay in more than one way !! But for
me it was worth it cuz now I can smoke anything on the road normally
aspirated...I could easily add nitrous to this bike and I would be right
there with the turbo bikes. I choose not to do that just yet but I am
thinking towards the end of racing next season I will do just that... I
would recommend PCW for a long rod motor.
Take Care Colo Phil
