Carburetor problem solved!
Some of you listers may remember me posting a few months ago about a
problem my TourMaster was having when I put my feet on the cruise pegs
at highway speed--sputtering, acting like it was really lean.
Well, I recently talked to TC about it (he was unsubscribed at the time
of posting), and he suggested I replace the hoses running from the float
vent tubes to the top of the airbox. PCW had removed them for some
unknown reason.
Today, I put some tubes on and went for a run. It TOTALLY fixed the
problem! Not only that, but the bike runs more consistently at all
speeds and RPM's. Now I think I'll finally be able to tweak the settings
and get some consistent results, instead of improvements in one area and
more problems in another.
The tubes make the pressure in the float bowls more equal to the
pressure of the air in the carburetor throat, since their open ends are
in the high-pressure area underneath the tank cover. As speed
increases, that pressure increases, and the position of my legs was
changing it, probably causing even more of a "ram air" effect. I don't
know if my explanation is totally correct; maybe you could clarify it,
TC.
Many thanks, TC!
