Two options, a Borg-Warner TFS545 or SW537 fan switch. These are designed to
bring fan on at lower temperature and you generally won't see the temp needle
over 1/2 way anymore as it cycles in earlier unlike the factory deal. It
doesn't affect fan service life. (these switches are out of a Nissan car I
believe)
Option 2 is a manual switch on your handle bars to enable you to turn fan on or
off when you need it. Easy to do.
Some owners do both. If you live in hotter climates I would recommend option 1
and if you ride in both climate types do option 2 or both.
Either way you have total control and a cool running Max.
I personally have a '99 also, and only have the manual switch on the handle
bars. In my situation it is ideal for me. Base it on your own riding and
conditions.
Go to VMOA web site or Paul Sayegh's web site for instructions and more
details.
