V-max/GSXR Rim Conversion

One of my ongoing projects is to match up a spare V-max rim I have with a
GSXR 17x 5.5 inch rim. I plan on building the rim like the BBR three spoke
GSXR conversion.  What GSXR rim will I need?  GSXR 1100?   What years will
work?  Why is the GSXR rim used for the conversion and no other sport bike
rims?  Finally, does anyone have a spare GSXR rim for sale or now what is a
fair price for such a rim?
