Bruce,
Depending on the header you are running ... some down pipes might get
closer than others. I do know that many people are running without a
case and don't seem to be having a problem ... currently ... I think
you need some type of shield even if it is the front of the old case,
(that has been split longways), because "anything" between the heat
source and the battery will benefit the battery a great deal. Even a
piece of stainless sheet bent at a 90 degree angle would do fine if it
covered at least the bottom half of the battery that is facing the
down pipes. On the other hand ... the "MJ" in the Odyssey model number
means "metal jacket" .......
IMHO as always ...
