Thanks for #3, because that was my next question. This must be why the  
parens are generally recommended for
evaluating JSON arriving via XHR. It seems this ought to be documented  
somewhere. I don't know that it's V8's
responsibility to do so, and it may well have been documented somewhere  
already, but it might be in the V8
project's best interest to document this, because this is a JavaScript  
idiom many people won't encounter until
they embed, and you might end up answering variants on this question quite  
often.
