There's a bug in WebKit that causes crashes when dealing with very large or deeply nested DOM trees - it's possible that something like this is killing the view-source. I only mentioned the gzipped size in the context of someone wanting to have a page that crashed V8 users they wouldn't have to deal with a lot of bandwidth or slow loads - the crashing page will load up real quick and sadtab the thing.
