The latest version this seems to work - keeping snapshots enabled - seems
to be 4.4.9.1. Any later version (4.4.9.2) immediately crashes in the exact
same way as described.
Using 4.4.9.1 is what I now do to keep snapshots enabled. I tried looking
through the list of changes to see what could be making it crash, but
haven't found it yet.
