We should only clear ics in that case if the receiver is a prototype; which
it most likely isn't. I added it this way since at that point we don't have
enough context. Given this regression we'll have to thread it through; or
flush on the outside.
In the long run we shouldn't use requires-slow-elements anymore, but the
bit we've discussed introducing.
