Thanks for taking the time to write out such a detailed and thoughtful answer. I knew some parts of that like maps/shapes and transitions, but not other parts like OSR.
I'm still left with my fundamental question. Given that there is a transition tree for maps, why does the engine not realize that there is one map (for objects with a single property a) that is valid for both objects?
