fails with gcc 4.5.2

The current version compiles in release mode with gcc 4.4 and 4.6.1, but
not with 4.5.2 and 4.5.3. In debug mode, everything is OK.
I have to admit that I don't fully understand why (URLs for the gcc bug
tracker/ChangeLog?), but I'm currently testing if the additional
declaration works for all those gcc versions.
