Ignoring our beloved oscillating benchmarks, the golem run I posted shows
some tiny improvements for a few benchmarks, but overall things don't really
changed. As I said, in my previous mail, this CL wasn't done to improve
performance, just to clear things up a bit while trying to reuse some code.
