I don't understand the problem.

Why would it be wrong to statically link against a static library? That's what static libraries are for.

What does .gitignore have to do with anything? Who's pushing the Android NDK to a git repository?

Why would we need to build the libraries when they're in the downloaded NDK?


Please see http://code.google.com/p/v8/wiki/D8OnAndroid for the workflow our build system is targeting. It sounds like you're expecting the V8 build system to build the Android NDK from source first; but that's definitely not within the scope of the V8 project.
