More info: I looked at the JavaScript function where I was setting the breakpoint, and based on my guess about the meaning of COMPARE_NIL_IC, I recoded the function so that it no longer includes the statement "if (value != null)". This eliminated the crash, so the bug seems to be related specifically to comparisons against null. That is, if you're at a breakpoint in a function that includes a comparison against null, "Step Over" may cause a crash.
