@rryk.ua: both strings and arrays have length limits that have nothing to do with allocation limits and V8 will not allow them to grow without bounds and throw a fake out-of-memory error.

try something more adequate: e.g. creating a lot of deeply nested tree like structures, e.g.

(function () {
  function tree (n, m) {
    if (n > 0) {
      var a = new Array(m);
      for (var i = 0; i < m; i++) a[i] = tree(n - 1, m);
      return a;
    }
  }

  var trees = [];
  while (true) trees.push(tree(15, 2));
})();
