I agree it is cryptic. I don't remember myself doing it (though I tracked
it down to codereview), but obviously I meant that resetting pointer to
NULL is only assert-ranked activity, not needed in release runtime.
I volunteer for fixing grammar in comment and maybe writing it more
explicit.
But I'm fine if you agree to getting rid of this trick completely.
