Numeric keys are indeed not problematic, since the elements are in dictionary mode.

Hiding the key through a keyed access seems to do the trick indeed. It'll trick Crankshaft into thinking that you are doing an element access; and since the elements are in slow mode, it'll insert a generic handler for both the load (regular load IC) and store (strict mode store IC), which will in turn do the right thing.
