I'd like to re-open this issue, because the test is still really slow: With
00:02.612 it is no. 5 release mode and with 01:30.734 no. 3 in debug mode
(use TESTFLAGS=--time to see it).
Our whole test suite performance has degraded seriously recently, so I
would really like to see some improvement here. Otherwise people tend not
to run the tests at all...
