re #4: Not sure what you mean, I have tried the following test case on ToT and the "action" literal is fully captured. The optimized version of "f" doesn't do any allocation for me. Am I missing something?

function f() {
  var action = {type: "move", direction: "s"};
  if (action.type != "move") { print("foo"); }
}
f();
f();
%OptimizeFunctionOnNextCall(f);
f();
