Aha, looks like it's the second set that makes it show up.
z = {}; z.__proto__ = o; z.__proto__
undefined
z = {}; z.__proto__ = o; z.__proto__ = p; z.__proto__
{ a: 1 }
z
{ [__proto__]: { a: 1 } }
z = {}; z.__proto__ = o; z.__proto__ = o; z.__proto__
{ y: 1 }
z
{ [__proto__]: { y: 1 } }
