Indeed weird, but something to consider: if you're optimizing to try to squeeze out 20 extra microseconds (which could in fact be introduced by any number of system-level details independent of v8), JavaScript _might_ not be the ideal language for your project. In my experience v8 is "fast as hell" as far as JS goes, but JS was never, and probably will never be a, a high-performance language. More and more people (based on previous posts here) seem to feel that JS is suitable for high-performance/scientific/massively parallel computing.
