Currently it only depends on the byte-order of 32-bit integers (I believe it
still does that, but I'm not completely sure). The content is based on
positions and characters in the source, which better be consistent :).

Before data are accepted, it's checked that it starts with the correct magic
number and version number. If the byte-order is incorrect, this test will
fail and the script-data will be ignored.
