Reply to: RE: Repeat Messages
You will see always see e-mail repeats from time to time, it is just more evident with
the number of e-mails generated as part of a discussion list.
When a person sends a posting, it goes through their outgoing ISP's mail server, over
to airstream.net's server, then over to vintageairstream.com's server where it is
picked off by the VACList server. If any one of those ISP's do a server reboot due to
a problem, they will often not only send the current messages in que, they will often
back up to an earlier buffer level and resend those just to be safe.

This can also happen on a smaller level once the message leaves the VACList server and
goes out to your ISP's mail server and into your POP account. If that server does the
same thing, or if you have a failure during retrieval, you alone will get duplicates.

To further complicate this, there are relay servers in-between all the above servers,
all with the possibility of creating duplicates.
It is almost mesmerizing to sit and watch the status and error log on the VACList
server display. When you think about tying the world together over a fragile network
of wires, satellites & machines, it is mind-boggling.

Summary? If you get a duplicate - delete....
