[VAC] Polishing

I have a 1976 31' Sovereign. What are the alternatives to polishing to improve the look of the aluminum. The clear coat on my trailer has come off stating at  the top and is cloudy and flaky toward the bottom. I plan to strip the clearcoat but I am not looking forward to polishing a 31' trailer. I guess I am looking for an alternative that will improve the finish realizing that I will not obtain the shine unless I polish.   Don Hardman
