Virtually no tire store will touch the split rims. Certain split rims
have been known to decapitate employees while being inflated, hence are
disliked. Fewer tire store employees even have any idea how to work with
split rims or the necessary tools.
Check Tom Patterson's archives for tire sizes and my post on the
relations of modern sizes to old sizes. Be very careful about a tire
store's recommendation for a swap because Airstream wheel wells are a
snug fit around the right tire and a slightly fatter or larger diameter
tire runs into metal.
