First, Colorado does not have a real monsoon season , but enjoys afternoon thundershowers to cool the hot dry days.(This is pretend stuff by the local weathermen who hunger for any moisture to justify their jobs). The showers last at best an hour, and rarely interrupt anyone's outdoor activities. I play golf through most of these. What follows are nice cool evenings with 50% humidity-great for sleeping.
Second, since I suggested this rally, I was thinking of a location which offered a good central location and amenities, similar to that which I enjoyed at the Olema, CA Rally last Fall. For this reason, I suggested Estes Park, and specifically, Blue Arrow RV Park, since it best meets that criteria: Central, easy access location, wide open sites with elbow room, lots of full hookups, spectacular views, lots of stuff for everyone to do and see, easy drive for most Coloradoans, etc. I was thinking in particular of pulling together the many Colorado/Wyoming/Western Nebraska folks whom I have not met, such that we could form a more cohesive group ala the Californian Vac-ers. It would also be great to have other out-of-staters join us, but I would suggest we keep this central where most of the Colorado VAC-ers reside and increase the probability of a good turnout. I'm sure that Southern Co is beautiful, and I know Leadville is as well, but that is not central, demographically or geographically. There are so many beautiful locations in Colorado that we could go on for months citing them all. If this rally is successful, we could do the next one elsewhere ( I love Jackson, Wy).
I spoke with the folks at Blue Arrow. They have 180 sites with full hookups, including cable TV. The group rates are $28/night for 2, one tow vehicle (you might be able to receive a Good Sam discount on top of this, I have in the past). Right now, available times for 30 sites is open for July/Aug. They are sending me a group application. It will take $100 with the ap. to hold the time/sites.
Sorry Blue Arrow doesn't have a Web site up yet, but believe me, this is a beautiful location which should leave everyone happy, especially wives who would have excellent shopping and restaurants in Estes Park. There is also golf at Este's 9 hole course, one of the most fun I have played, and the resident Elk will take off with your aluminum folding chairs if your don't put them up at night. I've seen a big Bull walk off proudly with an aluminum folder stuck in his rack. RM National Park is one of the crown jewels in our nation's park system.

The entrance is right outside Blue Arrow's gate.
It's a relatively easy drive up to Estes, no mega passes to cross (unless you are coming from the West through RM National Park, which I wouldn't recommend unless you have a small a/s and big, strong tow vehicle with good brakes- this is Trail Ridge Road, the nation's highest highway.)
So what do you think. You want me to book the 20 or 30 sites. How 'bout early August?
